    Just joined...

    Hey all,

Just thought I would say hello as I just joined today. I am 27 years old and have one dog, a rott named Jesse who is about 3 months old. He is my second rott as my first one past last summer. Throughout my life I have had two rotts, golden retriever and a springer spaniel...Rotts are by far my favorite mainly because of their extremely loyalty and protective nature.

Anyways, I thought I would say hi and give a brief history on my experiences with rotts. Love the site so far.

    Ryan

Ryan, Welcome to ROL..... we have a ton of info at this forum. And IMO It's the friendless site on the web. I would love to see pics of your new found love Jessie! I myself have had 4 Rotts at one time. Zeus, who has gone to the bridge at 9 yrs old and Apollo, who I lost to the bridge last Dec. due to cancer . He was only 6 at the time. I now have kitty, she just turned 11 this month. Then there is Rhea, she was Apollo's sister. I call Kitty, my be be and Rhea, I call her gumpy because I think she is Forest Gumps sister.....LOL I feed my Rotts a raw diet. And I practiced NILF.....Nothing In life is free! I also make them sit before I feed them. They know to sit and all I do is point when they can eat.I can walk away when their food is down and they won't touch it till I point my finger.Start training him as soon as he gets all of his shots. Training is a life long deal! Don't walk him until he gets all of his parov shots. Also after you train him make it fun....play with him. I play hide and seek and kick ball. They love it. As you know Rotts are very smart. If you need any advice we have several members that give you advice. I have rambled en-ff. I'm happy you joined....

Thanks for the welcome! Kitty I had read some posts and I assume "gone to the bridge" means they died but I have never heard it put that way. Is this a common term? My old rott was named Jake and I got him from a shelter when he was 10 months old. With a bit of training he became an absolutely amazing dog. In a different thread I'm going to post about him to get some opinions on what he died from...the vet told me one thing but I'm pretty confident she was wrong and he could have been saved....but back to my new pup Jesse. He is 3 months old and coming along great. He is struggling with nipping a bit but I can see improvement every week along with housebreaking. I've attached a few pics.

Ryan, yes gone to the bridge means that they have passed. I'm not sure if other forums use that term but we do here. Your pup is adorable! We have a place in the list of all the forums to put pics called Pictures of Rottweilers. Please from now on put all your pics there. Usually I would move it to that area but since you are a newbie I will leave it here. It's on the main page. There are several topic's on the main page. We have a chat box also that you can chat one on one. Make sure you read the rules of this forum....most members don't and I have to tell them. In all the different forums here there are stickys they are at the top of the forums. Stickys are important info for members to read. One thing I tell members is put bells on your door knob long enough so he can hit them with his nose. ( It will save your door from being scratched up. Before you take him out ring the bells.....then say potty. Before long he will get the hang of it and will ring the bells telling you he has to go potty. Do you use a enzyme cleaner when he pee's if not he will go back to the same area....dogs have a great sense of smell.....I forget what the it is.....a male dog can smell a female in heat a couple miles away! You say your boy is nipping are you waving your hands when playing with him? Don't! No teeth on humans!
