Keeping neighbors dog out of my yard

Hi! So we live on an acreage property and my neighbors house is quite close to mine just across the tree line. (My neighbors are my in-laws) They have a one year old in tact German Shepherd. He comes into our yard when he wants as he wants, and this does not bother them. It has been brought up a few times about him always being in our yard, and my husband and I chasing him home. Well nothing has been done. It's really bothering me because they aren't showing us the respect to keep their dog out of our yard. I don't want to blow up at them, but I am becoming very aggravated. For example last night he came down after we had told them, had a pee on my husbands snowmobile, proceeded to the barn did what ever he wanted down there, then picked up Jewels new jolly ball, and went home! Having a roaming in tact shepherd and two rottweilers can be a recipe for disaster! Thank god my two pups respect our yard boundaries, for now.
Well enough venting, does anyone have any solutions to my problem? I'm not a confrontational person, but perhaps I need to be?

Have you thought about fencing your yard? We have 25 acres but I feel much safer having a fenced in yard for our dogs.

I would tell them to put their GSD on a lead when he wants to go out! JMO

DO what I did to my inlaws (who I LIVE with)...drop the dog off at the local shelter, tell the shelter folks you found it wandering our neighborhood. After they are fined a few times for allowing their dog to roam, they'll get the picture.

Or worse, they'll scrape the dog up off the road after he gets hit by a car...or even worse, they'll get sued and lose everything because their dog attacked and/or killed another dog, or bit someone.

It is their choice and the one they are making now isn't smart for anyone, especially the dog.

I have to disagree with Anne which isn't too often. Contacting animal control can easily end up in the GSD being euthanized.

Fence your place to keep all strays out of your yard.

Not if the dog is wearing a collar or some other form of ID...OR contact animal control and file a complaint - EVERY TIME. Take pictures or video with date/time stamps to back up the complaints. Sometimes it takes a bit of reminding from the authorities to get a message across.

If the GSD did end up being euthanized it would (at least here in CT) be after the dog was held for 7 days for owner to claim and then another 7 days for adoption - and if the inlaws don't realize the dog is gone after 14 days, well, then, whose fault is it??

If animal control tries to catch the dog & it fear bites its now a dangerous dog.

Same issue if the intact untrained loose dog goes after another dog or bites someone in the neighborhood...the inlaws are ASKING for a heap of legal issues if they continue to let the dog roam - regardless of WHERE the dog is going, it is LOOSE, and if picked up, they should be fined accordingly. 99.999% of Animal Control vehicles carry rabies poles for catching dogs - and if they don't use them then they are stupid and asking for trouble.

I agree with Anne, fence in your yard. Maybe just part of it since you have such a large area. I myself have quite a large yard and we have a privacy fence. I also have a huge dogie door so my Rotts can go out and in at will. If you do fence make the doors so they open in not out. I also have locks on the doors. The reason behide the doors opening in is having Rotts if they would jump against the door right they could open it.....JMO
